Crewe Green, Shrewsbury, Shropshire |
Two of the three Victorian cottages in this block had been purchased by the same Client. We carried out a survey, discussed with the Client their requirements and ideas and drew up plans based on these discussion. Once we reached a solution that the Client approved of we then submitted the Planning & Building Regulations Application. The works involved the knocking through of the two cottages to form one house followed by an extensive but sympathetic extension to the rear. Careful consideration was given to ensure that the features of the existing building were seamlessly echoed in the extension, whilst meeting the high modern requirements in areas such as insulation.

Until recently this building was used as a Chapel, so the work needed to convert it into a balanced mix of old meets modern was considerable. A modest extension was added to the rear using local stone and reclaimed bricks matching the existing Chapel. The interior of the building was stripped back and with the addition of roof-lights, a modern and sympathetic interior was created. We even created a bat-loft and access ways to ensure that these protected animals could safely return once the conversion was complete.

Meifod, Nr. Oswestry |
This extension over a Garage may not be unique, but the way in which we undertook the work was. Following discussions with the Client, we erected a roof over the entire extension. This was erected to a structural engineers calculations, to withstand any winds whilst the works were being carried out. This then enabled us to carry out the works unhindered by the weather and the prospect of having to temporarily cover the roof each night. This meant that the duration of the project was reduced.

This project required a mix of our skills. Modern building techniques with concrete reinforced retaining walls and bitumen tanking plus, traditional methods of building such as extensive use of oak, traditionally crafted to fit with the property and working with lime- rendering, pointing and washing. The end result is a traditional ?? century house which now meets the 21 century needs of the clients.
